Wellington Square

Transforming a historic part of Oxford with new public realm and a new academic building.

Wellington Square brings new life to a historic part of central Oxford.

The scheme replaces a 1970s block with a new academic building that's designed to adapt over time to support the changing needs of the university.

The project strengthens the link between Little Clarendon Street and the wider square, creating a place that feels open, welcoming and easy to move through.

sustainable design

A practical approach that cuts carbon and supports low‑energy, low‑impact living.

The development is designed to evolve with changing needs without requiring major rebuilds. The new building will run on fully electric systems powered by air source heat pumps, supported by façades designed to keep energy use down.

Internal layouts maximise daylight and natural ventilation, helping reduce reliance on mechanical systems.

Outside, a largely car-free approach with generous cycle parking encourages low-carbon travel and supports healthier everyday movement.
