Life and Mind Building

The new home for biology and experimental psychology in the heart of Oxford.

The Life and Mind Building (LaMB) is the new shared home for Oxford's Department of Biology and Department of Experimental Psychology.
As the University’s largest building project to date, it brings 268,000 sq ft of research, teaching and innovation space into a single setting designed to support collaboration and new ways of working.
The project helps scientists come together to tackle complex global challenges. It combines state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching spaces, conference facilities and exhibition areas with new public realm that connects the building to surrounding parks, pedestrian routes and cycle paths.

GREENER PERFORMANCE
High-performing, low-carbon design that raises the bar for future university buildings.
A clear sustainability action plan shaped every stage of design and delivery, using BREEAM, WELL and Net Zero Carbon principles to raise performance.
carbon reduction beyond regulation
construction waste recycled

The building achieves carbon reductions of around 40% beyond UK regulations and supports healthier, lower-carbon travel through strong connections to walking and cycling routes.
During construction, the team recycled almost all site waste, reducing environmental impact while setting a strong benchmark for future university projects.
